OUR CSR AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Expertise

Employees and customers alike are questioning the role of enterprises: is their role still limited to creating wealth and profit, without creating community?

Social and environmental transformation: the new challenge facing companies

At Bartle, we support our clients in carrying out CSR projects, such as defining a CSR strategy, organising a portfolio of sustainable development projects, defining their corporate purpose or preparing for B Corp certification.

We also assist clients in end-to-end positive transformation programmes that aim to embed societal and environmental values and objectives in the company’s strategy and processes, from innovations in customer relations to production, supply chain, finance, HR, IT and more.

"Our role is to help you build organisations that are more intelligent, responsible and resilient"
Elisa Pahlawan, Director

A business strategy built around CSR

The current social, economic and environmental model has shown its limitations, and one of the priorities for enterprises today is to promote a collective raising of awareness about our impacts on ecosystems and to bring about the changes necessary to spark a virtuous circle.

In addition to the pressure exerted by increasingly demanding consumers comes the weight of legal constraints which make CSR an absolute priority.

There are myriad questions:

  • How do we measure our environmental footprint and, more broadly, our impacts?
  • What are our new legal obligations as regards corporate social responsibility?
  • How do we involve our suppliers, subcontractors, customers and distributors in deploying a circular model?
  • How do we make our innovations more responsible?
  • Which CSR certification is most appropriate for our sector/size/corporate culture?
  • Which CSR approach should we take to best meet the current challenges?

Bartle: an agent of positive transformation

We can assist you with every stage of your positive transformation:

Identify what is at stake

  • Conduct a diagnostic of CSR maturity
  • Build a materiality matrix that identifies CSR challenges, ESG risks and the importance for stakeholders
  • Organise a “Climate Fresk”

Co-construct a CSR road map

  • Hold brainstorming sessions to (re)define a company’s purpose
  • Articulate a CSR strategy by applying a circular design template
  • Develop a portfolio of sustainable development projects by identifying and prioritising the projects undertaken by each function at the company

Implement and educate

  • Lead inspirational workshops: half-day seminars to present concrete examples and harness the collective intelligence, study inspiring first-hand accounts (e.g., companies participating in the B Corp movement)
  • Organise intrapreneurial workshops: to discover internal talent and/or create a forum in which employees can express their talents (e.g., open forum)
  • Raise employee awareness with gamified campaigns (“serious game”) about the company’s CSR issues, best practices, etc.
  • Benchmark CSR certifications and designations to choose which are the most appropriate for your company
  • Assist with obtaining the selected certification/designation

Ground the positive transformation

  • Implement a change management plan
  • Support the creation of a stakeholders committee
  • Define non-financial performance indicators and set up a CSR dashboard

A CSR commitment reflected in our adherence to the B Corp movement

At Bartle, our firm is committed to the path of social and environmental responsibility. We are a certified B Corp, which is an opportunity for us to assert our commitment to a more just economy, where companies play a central role in society. It is also a way for us to reaffirm our values.

As a B Corp consultancy, we are accredited by B-Lab Europe to support our clients in their positive transformation endeavours with two distinct offerings:

  • BIA Advisory which assists companies in obtaining a B Corp certification
  • Radical transformation to support enterprises that want to make profound, radical changes in their modes of organisation and improve their social or environmental performance

We strongly believe that a company’s positive impact on its stakeholders (clients, partners, employees, local authorities) and the ability to develop long-term, virtuous relationships pave the way for discovering the keys to sustainable growth and business models.

Thus, we always strive to create a positive dynamic around our projects:

  • Share best practices
  • Communicate with our clients
  • Adopt open modes of collaboration
  • Examine the value added when it comes to the environmental, societal and economic effects of projects for all stakeholders
  • Lead thinking groups and innovation sessions

3 case studies
in CSR consulting

Design a new after-sales service offer for a European leader in the distribution of cultural and recreational goods, technical products and household appliances

Our approach:

  • First, we identified and documented new after-sales service processes.
  • Next, we assisted the operational teams in rolling out the new service offer.
  • Lastly, we monitored the roll-out of the offer by setting up KPIs.

The results: The new service offer extended product life and encouraged consumers to have their products repaired rather than buying new ones, which advances the circular economy.

Set up a second-hand goods offer for non-food products for an international retailer

Our approach:

  • We began by identifying consumer expectations at European scale.
  • Then, we identified the key success factors, defined the goal and the target, and drew up the road map.
  • Finally, we identified the change management actions to deploy.

Support a client in the banking sector in defining its corporate purpose, redesigning the member path and preparing for B Corp certification

Our approach: To define the new cooperative model and build a company purpose, we benchmarked the trends in cooperative banking and credit unions at international level and held over a dozen workshops with clients, employees and directors.

We then assisted our client with its B Corp certification process by:

  • Conducting a maturity diagnostic against the B Corp certification criteria
  • Laying the foundation for the project: schedule, lead participants, track responses to the B Corp self-assessment questionnaire (the “BIA”)
  • Facilitating interactions with B Lab up to the submission of the certification application
